A variety of sutlers selling all kinds of authentic frontier wares will have period stores through out the fort and the town. Visitors not only will be able to walk down a real wild west street, but also will have the opportunity to purchase an inexpensive piece of history from cloths to candles, tin ware, weapons, photographs, and dozens of other items.

"This very special event will give visitors an opportunity to live a unique piece of our heritage on the very ground which our forefathers struggled and died to build a future for us to inherit".

The state park preserves buildings dating from the 1860's when a line of federal forts was established on the Texas frontier to protect Settlers and travelers from Indian attacks and is the home of the State Longhorn herd.  The park has complete RV and tent camping facilities, including restrooms with hot showers and trailer hook-ups. Collins Creek Ranch owned by Lynn and Clifford Teinert is adjacent to the park and is the site of the town of Fort Griffin (sometimes called th
e flat), Tonkawa Indian Village and Western Cattle Trail. It is a working ranch with facilities for special events and activities. There is a very active preservation program for both the fort and the town.
